“I never had the chance to go into photography, but it has always captured my interest. Through my class, I have been able to learn a large amount of skills in only the span of a few weeks. I wanted to capture simple and everyday events at my school, and that is what led me to my final art.”

“As a person I commonly struggle with ADHD, however as a photographer, I can coexist with my flaws and represent myself through the diverse and creative shots I take. I see something that looks unique or appealing and snap a photo of it. I love working with the outdoors or everyday objects that may seem normal to other people. When I look at said object, I see every detail and really appreciate the design and quality, or lack thereof. Hunting for the “perfect shot” may seem hard or impossible, but in my opinion a “perfect shot” is a scene that really appeals to you or others. You may look at the sidewalk and see that it is only grey, but I see the sidewalk and notice the tiny divots and the unique pattern it holds.”

“I started throwing on the wheel when I was 8 because I needed an outlet for my thoughts. I quickly grew to love it and enjoy the challenges it brings both physically and emotionally (potters will know what I mean). When I was 6 I was given a simple and small digital camera. I have been unable to put one down since then. I think I just fell in love with the ability to capture moments in time.”

“Art has been with me before I knew what it was or how to describe it. It came natural to me to express myself through drawing by watching my mom decorate cakes. There is no such thing as bad art.”

“My photography has gotten better over the years at Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild (MCG). The images submitted were from a summer MCG field trip to Yellowstone National Park! This trip was offered to the students for free. We had the opportunity to meet and bond with new people, all in a very scenic atmosphere.”

“Photographing nature is what I like most. The dragonfly images were difficult to do since they are so quick. I managed to get two though! My favorite was taken outside of the cabins by a pond in Yellowstone. That trip with Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild was awesome!”

“Art is the way I stay calm and relaxed. I like to challenge myself in different mediums and ways of thinking through the arts. I know that if I continue to push myself, with the help of my teachers, I can achieve great things in all aspects of my life. Art has helped me fill in the gaps and I will continue to create to straighten my foundation.”

“Making any form of art in this generation of technology is complicated. There is a constant push and pull with modern and old ways of doing things. My photos focus on the aspects of everyday life that would be ignored by a passing bystander. We tend to overlook things that have become a part of our everyday lives and we lose the beauty in them. The ordinary is also extraordinary and we tend to not see that.”

“I love to do design and photography in my free time. The two design pieces I have represent my life in my home country, Vietnam, compared to my life here in Pittsburgh (like the drawing of a torn building compared to the PPG paints building). My photography pieces are of animals, which I love.”
