Funk: American Dada

 “News of the Layoff” by Kyle and Kelly Phelps Funk: American Dada runs through March 31, 2018. A public reception is scheduled for March 16 from 6 p.m.–9 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

America generated two great art movements: jazz and abstract expressionism. Both celebrated the transcendent individual. Musicians like George Clinton and James Brown developed a subversive sound grounded in community
—funk. The works of many contemporary African American craft artists do the same.
