Enjoy the relaxed MCG ceramic studio, whether you’re a beginner or an experienced potter. Use the potter’s wheel or a variety of hand-building techniques to create functional pottery for everyday use. Learn to finish your forms with various decorating techniques, including carving, slips and stamps. Works will be high-fired in our gas kiln so they’ll be microwave and dishwasher safe.

Photoshop Collages
March 21 – April 11, 2012

Learn the art of collage making in this class featuring the industry standard image editing software, Adobe Photoshop CS5.  One of the greatest things about Photoshop is the ability to work in layers. And what better way to learn layers than collaging. Collages are used for making artwork, scrapbooking, cards, creating posters, and more. Whether you are a beginner or have some skills this 4 week class will give you a good foundation in making selections and working with layers to create a fun, interesting compositions. No previous experience needed.
Eccentric Portraits in Photoshop
April 25 – May 16, 2012

Learn a variety of tools and tricks in this unconventional portrait class. Photoshop is the most powerful image editing program available. In this class we will unleash its power on portraits to create stylized illustrations, stone busts and pop art portraits. You will also have the opportunity to learn to use our digital SLR cameras! No previous experience needed.

Registration Info

MATERIALS FEES
Materials fees cover the basic supplies that are provided and necessary for completion of each course as determined by the course instructor. Students interested in working with more specialized materials or working in greater volume than is allotted will be responsible for the purchase of these additional materials.

CLASS INFORMATION
Students who register by mail may assume acceptance unless otherwise notified. No confirmation will be sent. MCG will make every effort to maintain the schedule of courses as announced. However, MCG reserves the right to cancel any course and to substitute faculty when necessary.

CLASS REGISTRATION
Spaces are limited! Please register in advance to reserve your space. Payment must accompany registration. Applications are processed in the order received and no spaces will be held without full payment. Space permitting, students may enter a class after the start date however class fees will not be prorated.

CANCELLATIONS AND REFUNDS
Class cancellations are decided three business days before the start date. If a class is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, the entire class fee and materials fee will be refunded by check. Students may opt-out before the second class begins by calling MCG. In this case, a refund minus a $25 cancellation fee will be given. After the start of the second class, no refunds will be made regardless of the number of class sessions you attend.

Educator Scholarships & Act 48 HOURS
Scholarships for Pittsburgh Public Schools (PPS) teachers and PAEA members are 25% and 10%, respectively, off tuition only and do not cover materials fees. PPS educators are eligible to earn Act 48 hours through the district by completing appropriate documentation at the end of the course. For non-PPS educators, the fee is $2.00 per class to receive ACT 48 hours for Allegheny Intermediate Unit.
